A former classmate has described University of Kentucky student-athlete Laken Snelling, who allegedly hid her deceased newborn in a closet, as a “serial bully.”

Laken Snelling, 21, was arrested on Sunday after Lexington Police Department officers responded to a call about an unresponsive infant. According to officials, the infant was declared dead at the scene. Police have confirmed that Snelling is the child’s mother.

The Fayette County Coroner’s Office in Lexington, Kentucky, reported that the autopsy on the male infant was inconclusive. They noted that further microscopic analysis is necessary to determine the cause of death.

Snelling was charged with tampering with physical evidence, concealing the birth of an infant and abuse of a corpse. She pleaded not guilty.

Snelling also “admitted to giving birth,” the police document indicated.

She was released from jail on $100,000 bond and placed on house arrest.

Other similar cases have gained national attention.

In 1996, Amy Grossberg and Brian Peterson delivered a baby in a Delaware hotel room costing $52 per night and discarded the infant in a dumpster, claiming the baby was stillborn, as reported by NBC Philadelphia.

Grossberg fell ill after returning to her dorm at the University of Delaware and required hospitalization. Doctors discovered during her treatment that she had given birth.

Melissa Drexler, in 1997, delivered a baby in a bathroom during her high school prom in New Jersey, according to The New York Times. Officials stated that Drexler wrapped the baby in plastic bags and placed him in a trash bin.

Drexler pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter and was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Fox News Digital reached out to Snelling’s attorney for comment.
