AUGUSTA, Ga () – Augusta is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with it’s annual Hispanic Heritage Festival at Augusta Common.

This is the 30th year of the festival honoring the diversity of the Latin American culture and teaching people more about the Hispanic community.

This festival serves as a reminder to the CSRA of its cultural diversity with vendors from many different countries.

Event organizers announced that the upcoming year will mark the 40th anniversary of the Asociación Cultural Hispanoamericana del CSRA (ACHA) and they aim to honor the unity of people with Hispanic heritage.

“We take great pride and joy in being an essential part of the CSRA community. Our Hispanic-American community unites not only for this festival but throughout the year,” stated Micki Berrios, Vice President of the Asociación Cultural Hispanoamericana del CSRA (ACHA).

Amid nationwide immigration raids and other challenges within their community, Berrios emphasized the importance of coming together in celebration.

“As a Puerto Rican American, and like many others of us who were born and raised in the United States, it’s important to connect with our roots and help our broader community understand who we are. We are a community that celebrates, enjoys, and supports one another,” Berrios continued.

She tells me she hopes everyone gets the opportunity to have fun at the festival, dance, try new foods and take advantage of all that is offered.

“While I love my tacos, this festival gives me a chance to explore flavors from other countries. There’s a wealth of taste here, so I encourage everyone to come out and discover something new. I hope everyone leaves with something positive, as there’s a lot of fun planned this weekend that I’d love to share,” expressed Berrios.

The festival will continue from 12pm-11pm on Saturday.
