CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — The Champaign County Circuit Clerk’s office has announced that it will be hosting Amnesty Week in October, providing an opportunity for individuals to save on fines.

Amnesty Week is scheduled to take place from Oct. 20 to Oct. 31. During this period, the Circuit Clerk’s office has stated that individuals with outstanding payments on criminal, traffic, DUI, ordinance, or conservation violations will be exempt from paying late and collection fees.

This does not apply to fines and costs that have already been paid — or tax refunds which have been applied against what is due and owed.

To participate in the program, the Circuit Clerk’s office advises individuals to initially request a quote for their case or cases by emailing cccircuitclerk@co.champaign.il.us. The email should contain the individual’s full name, address, phone number, email address, and court case numbers.

To find a case number, visit the Circuit Clerk’s website and fill in the individual’s name in the box called “Search by Participant Name.”

Payments can be made in person at the Champaign County Circuit Clerk’s Office located in the Champaign County Courthouse between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. To process the payment, individuals must bring their quotes along with a driver’s license or state ID.

Payments can be made by cash, cashier check, credit card or debit card.

Alternatively, payments can be made online on the Circuit Clerk’s website. When making a payment, choose the “Amnesty Week Payments” option. Use the reference number or numbers provided in the Amnesty Week quote to ensure payments are correctly applied.

Anyone with more questions should call 217-384-3725 or email ccircuitclerk@co.champaign.il.us.
