A Pennsylvania woman was arrested on Sunday, after three deceased infants were reportedly found dead at her former home.
Armstrong County police discovered that Jessica Mauthe, 39, faced eviction in mid-August. This occurred several weeks before the homeowner, upon cleaning the residence, found a trash bag emitting a strong odor in one of the closets.
The coroner later confirmed it was a dead baby in the trash bag, according to KDKA.
According to reports, troopers uncovered two containers in the attic. Inside one was a trash bag containing an infant wrapped in a towel. The other container housed a trash bag with a bucket inside, which held another deceased infant, also wrapped in a towel, as reported by the Leader Times.
Mauthe reportedly confessed to police that she had her first baby a year earlier, giving birth while on the toilet. She mentioned leaving the newborn in the toilet for several minutes before removing them and wrapping them in a towel, leading to suffocation, as per the Butler Eagle.
According to reports, Mauthe then placed the wrapped infant in plastic bags and stored it in an upstairs bedroom closet, where it was later found by the homeowner.
The Butler Eagle indicated that Mauthe further admitted to delivering two additional children, whom she also suffocated and subsequently concealed their remains in containers located in the attic.
Following the alleged confession, Mauthe was charged with criminal homicide and abuse of a corpse. She is due in court on September 23.
