Palmdale Street shooting on Jacksonville's Northwest side leaves man dead

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said the teen was walking along Rogero Road and was caught in the crossfire.

An early morning shootout in Jacksonville’s Arlington neighborhood led to a teenager being hospitalized after being struck as two Hyundais exchanged gunfire, according to reports from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

JSO Sgt. Richardson said at approximately 1:45 a.m., officers responded to the 3700 block of Rogero Road in reference to the shooting.

Upon arrival, officers found the injured teen and detained one of the involved Hyundais along with three occupants inside.

The injured youth was transported to a nearby hospital where he was said to be in stable condition after sustaining a single gunshot wound to his back. The teen, who was on foot at the time, was inadvertently caught in the crossfire. Fortunately, his injuries were deemed non-life-threatening.

In conversations with First Coast News, Richardson disclosed that authorities recovered three firearms from those detained. Detectives subsequently engaged with several witnesses and searched the vicinity for any available surveillance footage.

Richardson said he did not know how many people were in the other Hyundai involved in the shooting.

The public is encouraged to share any details related to the incident by contacting the non-emergency line of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office at 904-630-0500. Alternatively, anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
