A daycare worker from New Hampshire who administered melatonin to children through their meals will not face jail time, according to a sentencing decision made by the court on Monday.

Court documents from Hillsborough North Superior Court, accessed by Fox News Digital, reveal that 53-year-old Dreckmann admitted to charges of falsifying physical evidence and reckless behavior.

Judge Amy Messer handed down a suspended sentence of up to seven years in prison.

Judge Messer has prohibited Dreckmann from running or being employed in any daycare setting and from having unsupervised interactions with minors who are not her relatives.

Prosecutor, Shawn Sweeney said the case highlighted a dangerous loophole in New Hampshire law, per Boston.com.

“There’s a gap in the law,” Sweeney explained to the outlet, noting that child endangerment isn’t consistently classified as a felony.

A bill to strengthen the statute was also rejected by local lawmakers in May over concerns it might criminalize ordinary parental mistakes.

Due to the absence of legislative reforms, Sweeney mentioned that lenient penalties often prevail: “Without legal support, we’re left with the outcomes we face,” she commented.

Fox News Digital reached out to the New Hampshire Judicial Branch, whose spokesperson said: “We do not comment on individual cases.”
