President Donald Trump on Tuesday once again called on all European partners in the NATO alliance to cut dependence on Russian oil.
In his lengthy address to the United Nations General Assembly, Trump accused NATO allies of “funding the war against themselves.”
“Who the hell ever heard of that one?” Trump mocked.

Despite EU sanctions, LNG imports from Russia have continued, largely due to France’s “take or pay” contracts that last until the early 2030s. These agreements require France to continue importing Russian energy or face penalties.
Earlier in the month, Trump criticized European countries for purchasing Russian oil. However, on Tuesday, he expanded his critique to cover all Russian energy imports, notably shifting his stance shortly after France diverged from the U.S. regarding Palestinian statehood.
“If Russia is unwilling to negotiate to end the war, the U.S. is ready to impose strong tariffs that could quickly stop the conflict,” Trump stated. “For these tariffs to be effective, European nations, including those present here, would need to adopt the same measures.”

Trump remarked, “Europe is much closer to the heart of the issue than we are, with an ocean separating us. Europe needs to step up and halt all energy imports from Russia immediately, or else we’re just wasting valuable time.”
Trump said he will speak with Euroepan leaders about the issue while at the UN this week.
