James Comey's well-deserved indictment: Letters

The Issue: The indictment of former FBI Director James Comey for lying to Congress and obstruction.

It’s gratifying to see justice served to former FBI Director James Comey (“Coming for Comey,” Sept. 27).

I’m eagerly anticipating his conviction for deceit and obstruction. After him, former CIA Director John Brennan and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper are in line, with the ultimate aim being Hillary Clinton.

The Clinton-Biden-Obama conspiracy franchise is overdue for payback.

James Comey, the Dems and their media handmaidens need to recall one phrase: Nobody is above the law. It really is as simple as that.

Many within the Republican Party appear pleased with Comey’s indictment. However, they—and President Trump—should remember that in October 2016, merely 11 days before the election, Comey informed Congress about the FBI discovering emails potentially relevant to the Hillary Clinton investigation.

Many people believe that was when the momentum shifted and was one reason why Clinton lost the election and Trump was elected.

Comey’s indictment is just the first stop on the Trump Revenge Tour.

For those considering revenge as undemocratic, it’s important to note that Comey faces charges of two felonies: lying to Congress and obstructing an official process.

When properly directed, revenge can focus the legal system to seek out and punish those responsible for illegal acts.

Comey not only manipulated the Justice Department but also seemed to incite action against Trump through his cryptic Instagram post featuring a seashell. Making threats against a president constitutes a federal offense.

Many nutters out there might be inspired by Comey’s “8647” photo.

Kudos and congratulations to all in the Trump administration who made this indictment happen.

Comey’s self-righteousness was part of his demise and hopefully represents the fall of the deep state.

David Smith

Stamford, Conn.

The indictment of Comey is long overdue. His lies ruined people’s lives in an attempt to destroy a presidency.

Comey’s brazenness and his ability to deceive without consequences were appalling. Such behavior is characteristic of the elite entrenched in the deep state, who believe they can evade accountability to advance their political objectives. It’s high time for justice to prevail.

The Issue: Delegates walking out of Benjamin Netanyahu’s United Nations speech in protest.

While perfection is unattainable, shouldn’t it be a basic expectation for United Nations delegates to listen to a speaker, despite any disagreements they might have (“Can’t force Israel to destroy itself,” Michael Goodwin, Sept. 28)?

Talking heads are always telling people to listen to opposing views and engage in dialogue. However, when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu began speaking, delegates did the opposite.

Out of humanitarian concern for the missing hostages, these delegates should have remained.

Sallyanne Ferrero

Naples, Fla.

Dozens of delegates walked out during Netanyahu’s speech. The United Nations is a forum where representatives of different nations are meant to listen to one another with the intent of dampening down conflict. Obviously, this is not the reality.
