Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Travis Denard Grigger, aged 44, was taken into custody this morning on a felony warrant, facing charges of burglary, damaging property, and non-violent resistance to a law enforcement officer.

At approximately 1:11 a.m. on September 29, deputies from the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office responded to Harbor Cove Apartments (located at 6815 W. University Avenue). A tenant reported that Grigger appeared unexpectedly and was refused entry but entered the apartment anyway. He was again asked to leave and allegedly went outside, damaged the screen on the front window, and attempted to enter the apartment by opening the window. Upon realizing that the residents saw him trying to break in, he reportedly ran away.

Deputies initiated a K-9 track and eventually located Grigger at the Motel 6 on W. Newberry Road.

Grigger was charged with burglary of an occupied dwelling, property damage under $200, and resisting an officer without violence.

Grigger is also facing charges related to a warrant for felony battery, making a written threat, and burglary with battery. These charges relate to an incident on July 2, where he allegedly sent threatening texts to his pregnant girlfriend, went to her residence, assaulted her, entered her home after she shut the door, and struck her in the face.

Grigger has been instructed to avoid contact with the victim in the previous case. However, deputies suspect he went to the Harbor Cove apartment hoping to find her there and to cause harm.

Grigger has a criminal history involving 22 felony convictions, including seven for violent offenses, and 20 misdemeanor convictions, with three for violence. He has been incarcerated in state prisons eight times, last released in February 2025. Judge Jonathan Ramsey has ordered him held without bail on the two burglary charges pending a hearing on a request from the State Attorney’s office to retain him without bail until his trial. Should the judge deny this request, bail will be determined at that hearing. Additionally, Judge Ramsey set bail at $10,000 for the property damage and $50,000 for the battery and written threat charges.

Articles about arrests are derived from law enforcement agency reports. The charges are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and should be considered accusations. All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
