TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) — A woman was charged with attempted murder following a shooting at the University of Alabama Arboretum.

On Monday around 1:00 p.m., officers from the Tuscaloosa Police Department and the University of Alabama Police were called to the Arboretum following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they found a man with a gunshot wound. The victim, who has not yet been identified, was quickly transported to a local hospital due to the severe nature of his injuries.

The Violent Crimes Unit took charge of the investigation, uncovering that the incident resulted from a domestic dispute between the victim and a woman. The suspect, 41-year-old Jone Vshal Bates, fled the scene but was apprehended later that night.

Bates is charged with attempted murder at this time and is being held without bond.

Captain Jack Kennedy with the Violent Crimes Unit said the victim and suspect are not affiliated with the university.
