DALLAS (AP) — A second detainee shot in an attack on a Dallas immigration field office last week has died, his family said Tuesday.

The League of United Latin American Citizens released a statement confirming that Miguel Ángel García-Hernández, aged 32, passed away after being taken off life support due to his injuries.

Miguel was among three detainees who were shot during the September 24th attack at an ICE facility in Dallas, which resulted in one fatality and left two other detainees critically injured. The deceased victim was previously identified as Norlan Guzman-Fuentes.

Officials disclosed that 29-year-old Joshua Jahn was responsible for the shooting, firing randomly from a nearby rooftop. They reported that his motive stemmed from animosity towards the U.S. government and a desire to incite fear by targeting federal agents. No ICE staff were harmed, and Jahn ended his own life after the attack.

The incident occurred amidst increasing immigration enforcement efforts, which have provoked hostility towards ICE agents and heightened concerns within immigrant communities nationwide.

Stephany Gauffeny expressed her grief in the statement, “My husband Miguel was a good man, a loving father, and the provider for our family. We had just bought our first home together, and he worked tirelessly every day to ensure our children had everything they needed. His death is a senseless tragedy that has devastated our family. I am at a loss for words in explaining to our children that their father is no longer with us.”

Gauffeny is expecting their fifth child, LULAC said.
