Chase across county lines ends in arrest in Burke County

() – A shooting suspect out of Jenkins County is in custody after a chase across county lines into Burke County, Monday afternoon.

At approximately 4 p.m., Georgia State Troopers identified a vehicle on US 25 in Jenkins County that matched the description of one driven by a male suspect involved in a shooting.

When the Troopers tried to pull the vehicle over on Winthrope Avenue, it attempted to escape. A PIT maneuver was performed to halt the pursuit, bringing the vehicle to a stop at an intersection. Troopers reportedly got out of their cars and instructed the driver to raise his hands and exit the vehicle. However, the driver managed to take control of the vehicle again and escaped.

Jenkins County Deputies pursued the suspect into Burke County, where Burke County Deputies arrived to assist.

The suspect then lost control of his vehicle at the US 25 Bypass near Burke County High School and was then taken into custody.

The suspect’s identity has not yet been released. No word yet on charges.
