AUGUSTA, Ga. () — An exciting, free health fair is returning to the CSRA on Saturday, October 11th, hosted at the Bethel Community Church Family Life Center in Augusta. This event is set to offer a variety of health screenings, educational sessions, complimentary meals, clothing, haircuts, and several family-friendly resources.

The fair was initiated by Michael Jones, who was motivated by his mother’s experience as a long-term breast cancer survivor. He shared, “I wanted people who lack access to the resources my mother had to receive screenings, support, and early detection services.” Visitors can undergo screenings for ailments like diabetes and high blood pressure, partake in healthcare professional-led classes, and connect with organizations such as Piedmont, Augusta University, and Augusta Tech.

Volunteers are crucial for the smooth execution of the event. According to Bettina Israel, the volunteer coordinator, local clubs and community groups will assist with parking, resource distribution, and welcoming guests. There is still an opportunity for more volunteers to join.

In addition to health resources, attendees can enjoy complimentary food from food trucks, a selection of clothing and shoes for various ages, free haircuts provided by the Georgia Institute of Cosmetology, and 300 tote bags sponsored by Oak Street Health, which include hand sanitizer, COVID kits, and other essentials.

Michael stresses the significance of early detection. “Early identification of health issues can lead to the necessary care and enhance the likelihood of overcoming them,” he stated.

The free health fair will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 2610 Milledgeville Road, Augusta.
