On the second anniversary of the tragic events of October 7, President Donald Trump sent a letter to the Hostages and Missing Families Forum, expressing gratitude for their outreach to the Norwegian Nobel Committee.
“Since the dreadful acts of October 7, 2023, which devastated families, separated children from parents, and resulted in brutal losses of life, I have been committed to bringing all hostages back and ensuring the complete eradication of Hamas to prevent such atrocities from reoccurring. These painful memories are etched in our minds, and they will forever remain with us,” stated Trump in his letter.
“My entire administration is deeply moved by how, despite facing the agony of two years in uncertainty about your loved ones, you have persistently shared their stories and fought for their cause.”

It’s unclear whether Trump will win the prize, but that does not mean he has given up on achieving peace and ending the war.
Over the weekend, Trump encouraged those in indirect negotiations to “act swiftly,” suggesting that Hamas’ response seemed encouraging, and urged Israel to “cease the bombardment of Gaza immediately.”
Last month, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, during a U.S. visit, agreed to a 20-point plan. Though Hamas hinted at a willingness to free the hostages, a definitive decision on Trump’s proposal has yet to be made.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio hailed Trump’s deal as “a historic opportunity to close this dark chapter, and to build a foundation for lasting peace and security for all.”
Chief negotiators from Israel and Hamas convened in Egypt on Tuesday as negotiations regarding Trump’s peace plan continued. An Egyptian official with knowledge of the talks told The Associated Press that Hamas and Israel agreed on most of the first-phase terms, including the release of the hostages and the establishment of a ceasefire.
