Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Early this morning, Christopher Deona Daniels, 35, found himself under arrest following an incident where he allegedly hurled a glass container at a car window, leading to the window shattering and injuring the car’s occupant.

At approximately 2:18 a.m. on October 12, an officer from the Gainesville Police Department arrived at Eden Park (1310 NE 39th Avenue). The victim recounted having a dispute with Daniels while seated in the driver’s side of their car within the apartment complex’s parking lot. After she rolled up the window, Daniels reportedly threw a glass container into the car, which resulted in the window breaking and her knee getting gashed. The victim then drove off while contacting 911. When the officer later met with her near the complex, he observed that significant pressure was required to stem the bleeding from her knee. Additionally, he noted the broken window and glass container remnants inside the vehicle.

The officer located Daniels, who reportedly stated spontaneously that he had thrown something into his own vehicle.

After being read his rights, Daniels allegedly acknowledged the argument with the victim, admitted to getting “overheated,” and confessed to throwing a glass object into the vehicle while she was still inside. Initially, Daniels claimed he acted because the victim attempted to hit him with the car, but he later confessed this was a lie.

Daniels is facing charges including aggravated battery causing bodily harm, throwing an object into a vehicle, and felony battery with a previous battery conviction. His criminal record lists five felony convictions (three involving violence) and five misdemeanors (three involving violence), and he has completed two state prison terms, with the most recent ending in January 2025. Judge Susanne Wilson Bullard has decided to keep him in custody without bail while awaiting a hearing on a request from the State Attorney’s office to continue holding him without bail until trial. Should the judge reject this request, bail will be determined at that proceeding.

Articles detailing arrests derive from law enforcement agency reports. Charges mentioned stem from arrest documents and/or court records and are mere allegations. All individuals are deemed innocent until a court of law proves otherwise.
