Netanyahu calls Trump Israel’s 'greatest friend' as final living hostages released

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday called President Donald Trump the “greatest friend” Israel has ever had, following Hamas’s release of the final 20 living hostages as part of the recent peace agreement.

“No American president has ever done more for Israel,” Netanyahu said. “It ain’t even close.”

Netanyahu expressed appreciation for Trump’s actions at the United Nations, his acknowledgment of Israel’s rights in the West Bank — known as Judea and Samaria — and his withdrawal from the “flawed” Iran nuclear accord.

“We are grateful for your unwavering support during Operation Rising Lion and your courageous decision to commence Operation Midnight Hammer,” Netanyahu commented, referencing the June attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities. “Listen to this — it’s the most aptly named military operation, because shortly past midnight, you truly hammered them.”

The deal stipulates that Israel will cease military activities and retreat to predetermined lines while arrangements for a full hostage swap commence. Hamas individuals who reject violence will receive amnesty or safe passage, while others persisting with resistance will be barred from future governance in Gaza.

Humanitarian aid, including essential provisions, infrastructure restoration, and medical assistance, will proceed unimpeded into Gaza, monitored by the United Nations, the Red Crescent, and other impartial entities.

A transition in Gaza’s governance to a technocratic Palestinian committee will occur under the oversight of an international “Board of Peace” led by Trump, together with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and other world dignitaries. This assembly will direct Gaza’s reconstruction until a restructured Palestinian Authority is equipped to assume control.

A Trump-led economic development plan will seek to attract international investment and transform Gaza into a “thriving modern miracle city,” supported by a special economic zone with preferential trade terms. The plan promises that no residents will be forced to leave Gaza, emphasizing voluntary participation in rebuilding efforts.

Security arrangements include the creation of a U.S.-led International Stabilization Force (ISF) to train Palestinian police, secure borders, and oversee disarmament. Israel will not occupy or annex Gaza but will gradually withdraw as security milestones are met. Regional partners, including Egypt and Jordan, will help ensure compliance and prevent the resurgence of militant threats.
