NEW YORK (AP) — Taylor Swift’s “Eras Tour” has come to a close — but the show must go on.
Swift, who has just released her 12th studio album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” has even more exciting news to share. “Good Morning America” announced on Monday morning that she will be unveiling two new projects on Disney+. The first is a six-part, behind-the-scenes docuseries about her monumental “Eras Tour,” aptly named “Taylor Swift ‘ The Eras Tour ‘ The End of an Era.”
The first two episodes of her docuseries will premiere Dec. 12.
This should not be confused with the second project, “Taylor Swift ‘ The Eras Tour ‘ The Final Show,” a concert film that now features the “The Tortured Poets Department” section. Her 2024 album was added to her three-and-a-half-hour performance after its release, capturing the event in Vancouver.
This stands apart from the 2023 release, “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” film, which was put together from multiple of Swift’s performances at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, just outside of Los Angeles, arriving before “The Tortured Poets Department.”
Swift’s new Disney+ projects are just the latest in a string of major announcements. On its release day, October 3, “The Life of a Showgirl” sold an astounding 2.7 million copies in traditional album sales, smashing her own record for the highest first day sales.
That’s according to Luminate, an industry data and analytics company that began tracking sales in 1991.
Her last album, 2024’s “The Tortured Poets Department,” amassed 2.61 million equivalent album units in the U.S. in its first week.
Furthermore, per Luminate, “The Life of a Showgirl” set the record for the most vinyl album sales in one week in the U.S., moving 1.2 million copies on its first day alone.
The previous record holder was “The Tortured Poets Department,” which sold 859,000 copies on vinyl in its first week.
A key reason for Swift’s phenomenal success is the variety in which she released her album. This includes multiple editions unique to Target, featuring three CDs titled “It’s Frightening,” “It’s Rapturous,” and “It’s Beautiful,” as well as a special vinyl edition, “The Crowd Is Your King.”
There are a number of other vinyl variants as well: “The Tiny Bubble in Champagne Collection,” “The Baby That’s Show Business Collection,” “The Shiny Bug Collection,” and the standard LP and cassette, in “sweat and vanilla perfume Portofino orange vinyl.”
