Diane Keaton longtime friend ‘stunned’ by weight loss before death

One of Diana Keaton‘s closest friends spoke out on the late Academy Award-winning actress’ final days before her death at age 79.

Carol Bayer Sager, the Grammy and Oscar-winning songwriter, shared details about the last time she saw the “Annie Hall” star alive, a few weeks ago.

“She appeared very thin,” she shared exclusively with People magazine, expressing shock at her friend’s physical state. “She had lost a significant amount of weight.”

Sayer, who collaborated with Keaton on the song “First Christmas,” also mentioned that their encounters were less frequent this year since Keaton had been spending more time in Palm Springs after her longtime Los Angeles residence suffered damage due to the California wildfires.

“She was down there for a while, and when she came back, I was kind of stunned by how much weight she’d lost,” she shared.

The “That’s What Friends Are For” lyricist also talked about the impact Keaton made on people.

“She was a magical presence for everyone,” Sayer commented. “I adored her. She was truly special, lighting up any room with her spirit. She was joyful, full of life, and constantly capturing photos of everything she encountered.”

She described the Los Angeles native as “completely creative; she never stopped creating.”

Keaton, who had notable roles in “First Wives Club,” “Father of the Bride,” and the “Book Club” series, is remembered by her two children, whom she adopted in her 50s.

The cause of her death has not been made public.
