A Tennessee woman who was wanted by police for allegedly assaulting her wheelchair-bound ex-boyfriend has been arrested.

Taneshia Gearing, 29, was taken into custody by the Chattanooga Police Department on Friday following an arrest warrant issued for domestic assault and vandalism charges. She was able to post bail and subsequently released. An arrest affidavit, accessed via local ABC affiliate WTVC, indicates that these charges are linked to an alleged event from June 2024 involving Gearing and her previous partner. The ex-boyfriend reported to police that Gearing assaulted him and forcibly removed him from his wheelchair.

The affidavit reveals that Chattanooga officers responded to a call made on June 25, 2024, by the man, who claimed that his former girlfriend, Gearing, broke into his residence by kicking in a locked door. Following a verbal confrontation, Gearing allegedly tore through his apartment as the man attempted to flee by getting out of his wheelchair and maneuvering down a flight of stairs. Gearing purportedly followed him outside and continued her attack.

The man informed police that Gearing hurled a phone at his face, causing a cut below his eye. She also ripped his shirt and assaulted him with her hands before leaving the area.

Upon the arrival of officers, the man declined medical treatment. They also proposed assistance from a domestic violence advocate, but he refused it.

Within the residence, authorities discovered a baseball bat and two destroyed television sets. The affidavit notes that a witness corroborated the man’s story of the incident.

Gearing was charged with domestic assault and vandalism/malicious mischief. Her next court date is scheduled for Nov. 12.
