GRUNDY, Va. (WJHL) – On Sunday, Remote Area Medical (RAM) set up shop at Riverside Elementary/Middle School in Grundy, offering complimentary healthcare services to those in need. This year, attendees were met with something new on the premises.

A dedicated team of doctors, nurses, and volunteers from the local area collaborated with RAM to deliver a range of free medical, dental, and vision care services.

The services made available included dental cleanings, pediatric care, screenings for diabetes and cancer, as well as specialized healthcare for women.

Lindsay Allison, who coordinates the RAM Clinic, emphasized their goal to enhance healthcare access for the residents of Grundy.

“Whether it’s dental, medical, or vision experts,” Allison expressed to News Channel 11, “our mission is to reduce pain and alleviate suffering in any way we can.”

A volunteer doctor at the event shared with News Channel 11 insights into the common reasons patients seek help at the clinic.

“In the medical area, we had general medical exams, pediatrics, women’s health, labs, hearing tests, flu shots,” he said. “I think it’s important that we reach out to understand areas and populations that either don’t have access to health care or have limited access.”

Connor Gibson, RAM Dental Technology Manager, said the clinic’s newest edition was on site.

“We also have our brand new state-of-the-art mobile digital denture lab,” Gibson said. “It is the first digital denture lab of its kind in the world, where we are 3D printing and designing digital dentures here onsite for free.”

Gibson said they can now print 3D dentures within an eight-hour timespan.

“Traditionally, it would take four to six weeks in a normal dental office,” Gibson said. “Here, we are doing it within six to eight hours.”

Patients were connected and referred to local physicians after their visit to follow up on their healthcare results and plan.

“With every clinic, there’s a handful of patients we’ve made, a significant difference in their life, may have saved their life,” Dr. Wayne said. “I think that makes it all worth it.”
