A woman accused of a terrifying stabbing attack in Melbourne’s CBD will remain behind bars after her bail application was dropped by her lawyers.

Lauren Darul stands accused of a harrowing incident that took place on October 2, where she is alleged to have stabbed a woman in the chest while the victim was on her way to work along Little Bourke Street. This random act of violence has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting concerns over public safety.

In connection with the incident, Darul faces serious charges, including intentionally and recklessly causing injury, as well as committing an indictable offence while already on bail. These charges reflect the gravity of the allegations against her.

During a recent court session, Darul appeared via video link for a bail application. However, the proceedings took an unexpected turn as she exhibited erratic behavior, laughing maniacally at the camera before the application was abruptly withdrawn.

Adding to the complexity of the case, it was revealed in court that Darul had been contending with over 45 charges on the day of the alleged attack. However, this number has now been pared down to 17, which include charges of theft and criminal damage, further encapsulating the legal challenges she faces.

The victim of this vicious attack, a 36-year-old woman, expressed relief knowing that Darul remains off the streets, providing her with some comfort amidst the ongoing legal proceedings.
