In the wake of KISS guitarist Ace Frehley’s passing last week, authorities in New Jersey are now delving into the circumstances surrounding his death.

A representative from the Morris County Medical Examiner’s Office informed TMZ that while Frehley did not undergo an autopsy, he is subject to a toxicology analysis and an external review.

The investigation follows nearly a week after Frehley was placed on life support due to a brain bleed incurred from a fall in his studio a few weeks prior. Ultimately, his family made the heart-wrenching decision to disconnect him from the ventilator.

In a heartfelt statement to People, the guitarist’s family announced his passing, sharing their profound grief and heartbreak.

“We treasure all the wonderful memories, his humor, and the way he touched others with his generosity and strength,” the statement expressed. “The impact of his loss is immeasurable and difficult to fathom. As we remember his amazing accomplishments, Ace’s legacy will endure forever!”

Frehley was a pivotal member of KISS, contributing his guitar talents to their first nine albums from 1973 to 1982 alongside Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, and Peter Criss. He eventually departed from the band, citing issues with substance abuse and creative differences.

He rejoined the group for their 1998 reunion album “Psycho Circus,” but left again a few years later in 2002.

Stanley and Simmons shared a joint statement honoring their former bandmate saying, “I am devastated by the passing of Ace Frehley. He was an essential and irreplaceable rock soldier during some of the most formative foundational chapters of the band and its history. He is and will always be a part of KISS’s legacy. My thoughts are with Jeanette, Monique and all those who loved him, including our fans around the world.”

At 74, he is the first original member of KISS to die.

A rep confirmed that Ace’s cause of death will be determined in the coming weeks, once the toxicology report is finished.
