Chicago teacher accused of mocking Charlie Kirk’s assassination portrayed as victim by school principal

The principal of a Chicago elementary school appeared to frame a controversial teacher as a victim, following public outcry over her actions that seemed to mock the assassination of Charlie Kirk.

Lucy Martinez, an educator at Nathan Hale Elementary School, is under scrutiny and faces demands for her dismissal. This comes after she was caught on video making a gesture resembling a gun and shouting “bang, bang” during a No Kings protest in Chicago over the weekend.

Nathan Hale Elementary School’s principal, Dawn Iles-Gomez, seemed to defend Martinez after the incident, which many perceived as disrespectful towards the recent assassination of Charlie Kirk. The principal’s response has sparked further debate.

The video, which has gone viral on social media and accumulated tens of millions of views, is widely seen as a parody of Kirk’s death. Kirk, a conservative commentator, was fatally shot in the neck last month.

In a letter addressed to parents, Principal Iles-Gomez acknowledged that Martinez received threats. However, the letter did not address Martinez’s actions or specify any disciplinary measures taken against her, as reported by Fox News Digital.

A memorial at Utah Valley University honors Charlie Kirk, the conservative commentator who was tragically assassinated last month.

“Dear Hale Parents and Staff, safety continues to be my top priority, which is why I am writing to notify you of a situation involving our school,” the letter states. “We were recently made aware of social media posts with language that resembles a potential threat to a staff member. We take all potential threats extremely seriously to ensure the safety of our school community.”

“The Chicago Police Department and the CPS Office of Safety and Security have been notified, and CPD is currently investigating this situation further,” Iles-Gomez continued.

Fox News Digital has attempted to reach Iles-Gomez.
