OSWEGO, Ill. (WLS) — Authorities have charged a suspect in connection with two stabbing incidents that occurred hours apart at a Chick-fil-A in the western suburbs, one of which resulted in a fatality, officials revealed on Thursday.

Darryl Lee Jr., 19, from Kankakee, faces 11 felony charges, including first-degree murder, as per the announcement from the Kendall County State’s Attorney’s Office.

The investigation was initiated around 5 a.m. at the Chick-fil-A located on the 2700 block of Route 34, according to police reports.

Police responded to emergency calls reporting a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers discovered an injured individual outside the establishment.

Swiftly, law enforcement detained the suspect at the scene, as confirmed by the police.

During a safety check of the premises, officers found a second victim who had succumbed to stab wounds. This victim was attacked earlier, around 3 a.m., according to Oswego police.

The man who was killed has now been identified as 52-year-old Tracey J. Land of Bridgeview, the Kendall County State’s Attorney’s Office said. He was making a delivery at the restaurant when he was attacked by the suspect.

Lee then allegedly stayed to clean up the crime scene when the second victim arrived and was attacked outside, officials said.

A witness to the second attack outside the restaurant called police. The surviving victim’s mother was nearby and tried to help. She spoke to ABC7 by phone anonymously.

“There were hitting each other,” she said. “The guy got my son on the floor, so I got out of the car and I was trying to get him away from my son so he couldn’t him my son anymore.”

When they arrived, police say a they found her son pinning the attacker down and they were able to take him into custody.

“Preliminary investigation indicates that the offender attacked one adult male victim at approximately 3:06 a.m. and another adult male victim at approximately 5 a.m. No restaurant employees were present at the time,” said Cherese Spears with Oswego police.

Video obtained by ABC7 shows detectives at the Chick-fil-A. Crime scene tape was also seen surrounding a delivery truck, which is owned by a Rosemont-based company Martin Brower.

It is unclear if the delivery truck was involved in the incident.

Police are still investigating a motive for the attacks. The Kendall County Major Crimes Task Force has been activated to assist with the investigation and processing of the scene.

No other information was available.
