In a Bronx courtroom on Friday, a 67-year-old man accused in a deadly stabbing was formally charged with murder and denied bail. Enoch Rosado is alleged to have fatally attacked 35-year-old Miguel Batiz during an altercation inside a New York City Housing Authority apartment.

Rosado appeared before the Bronx Criminal Court clad in a white jumpsuit, his hood drawn over his head. Prosecutors successfully petitioned for Rosado to remain in custody without bail, citing the seriousness of the charges stemming from the incident that occurred at the Edenwald Houses on East 229th Street near Laconia Avenue early Wednesday morning.

Authorities responded to reports of violence at the building and discovered Batiz with multiple stab wounds. Despite efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police statements.

Details from the criminal court complaint reveal that Rosado allegedly admitted to striking Batiz on the head with an object, a claim supported by witness testimonies and surveillance footage.

Later that evening, around 7 p.m., police apprehended Rosado, who resides in the same building as the victim. Besides being charged with murder, Rosado faces counts of manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon.

While investigators confirmed that Rosado and Batiz, reportedly a chef, were acquainted, the motive behind the violent encounter remains undetermined.

Two of Rosado’s family members were in court at his arraignment but declined to speak to press.

Rosado’s next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 27.
