'Level 3 sex offenders' in Chatham County must report to sheriff’s office on Halloween

SAVANNAH, Ga. — In an effort to enhance community safety during Halloween, the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) has introduced a new initiative aimed at keeping children and families secure. Dubbed “Operation Night Watch,” this program specifically targets registered sex offenders.

On Halloween night, from 6 to 9 p.m., all individuals classified as “Level 3 Registered Sex Offenders” residing in Chatham County are required to check in at the CCSO. They will stay at the facility for the duration of these three hours, according to a spokesperson from the CCSO.

Additionally, deputies from the Sex Offender Registration and Tracking Unit will be actively conducting checks on other registered offenders throughout the evening.

This proactive approach is not unique to Chatham County; several other counties in the Coastal Empire, including Effingham and Screven, are implementing similar safety measures on Halloween night.
