Emergency services rushed to Avonwood Avenue in Wyndham Vale around 6:15 p.m. yesterday following reports of a boy being injured.
Security camera footage from the neighborhood captures two boys running away from a group of armed individuals. During the escape, one boy is seen being kicked, while the other suffers a punch.
According to police, the group, which included a member wielding a kitchen knife, approached and attacked the victim.
The five suspects fled the scene on foot before emergency responders could arrive.
The injured 14-year-old received treatment on-site for a minor injury.
Local residents reported that the boy’s friend sought refuge by jumping into backyards and asked them for assistance.
The horrifying violence shocked families who were celebrating Halloween on the quiet residential street.
“It was really scary, we were out trick or treating and there was lots of helicopters,” a young witness said.
“I called my dad and I said ‘there’s lots of police in front of our house’.”
The girl’s father said he didn’t expected a knife fight to occur in the area.
“We send them [trick-or-treating] alone,” he said.
“This is a very quiet street. Good neighbours.”
Police say they are treating the incident as a targeted attack and said those involved are known to each other.
At this stage no arrests have been made.
