Several individuals have suffered stab wounds on a train near Cambridge, prompting the arrest of two suspects, according to British police reports.

The British Transport Police announced on social media platform X that they are actively addressing an incident involving multiple stabbings on a train heading to Huntingdon.

Cambridgeshire Constabulary confirmed that armed police responded after receiving reports of the situation at Huntingdon station at 7:39 p.m. local time on Saturday.

Two individuals were taken into custody at the station, located approximately 120 kilometers north of London.

The affected train was the 6:25 p.m. service from Doncaster to London King’s Cross, as verified by British Transport Police.

Cambridge Police issued a statement highlighting that armed officers intervened, halting the train at Huntingdon, where the arrests took place. Several victims have been transported to the hospital for treatment.

“The incident remains ongoing, and the A1307 has been closed as you approach the town centre.”

East of England Ambulance Service confirmed multiple people have been transported to hospital.

Paul Bristow, the mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, said in a post on X that he had heard of reports of “horrendous scenes” on the train.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the incident “deeply concerning.”

“My thoughts are with all those affected, and my thanks go to the emergency services for their response. Anyone in the area should follow the advice of the police,” he said on X.

British Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood said she was “deeply saddened to hear about the stabbings,” and that her “thoughts go out to all those affected.”

“Two suspects have been immediately arrested and taken into custody,” she said in a post on X.

Mahmood said she is receiving regular updates on the investigation and urged people to avoid “speculation at this early stage” as to what was behind the stabbings.

Conservative party leader Kemi Badenoch also responded to the incident in a post on X.

“This is an absolutely horrific attack and my thoughts are with all those affected including the emergency responders at the scene,” Badenoch wrote.

The East Coast Main Line is one of the UK’s busiest and most important railway routes.

It connects major cities, running from London King’s Cross to Edinburgh Waverly in Scotland.

The rail company that operates trains on the East Coast Mainline, London North Eastern Railway (LNER), put out a statement on X.

“We are experiencing major disruption across the LNER route,” the train company said.

“Emergency services are dealing with an incident at Huntingdon station; all lines are blocked,” LNER added.

“Our advice is ‘Do Not Travel’. Please defer your travel where you can,” the company said.
