Jayden Daniels suffers gruesome elbow injury

Jayden Daniels endured a severe elbow injury during the Washington Commanders’ crushing loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night.

While attempting to score a late-game touchdown, Daniels was brought down by Seahawks’ linebacker Drake Thomas just short of the end zone.

As Thomas tackled him, Daniels extended his left arm in an effort to cushion his fall.

Unfortunately, something seemed to give way in his elbow, resulting in a significant injury to the promising second-year quarterback. Thankfully, it was not his dominant arm.

Medical personnel swiftly attended to Daniels as his distraught Commanders teammates gathered around, taking a knee while he received immediate care.

After being fitted with a padded brace, Daniels managed to exit the field on foot before heading to the locker room for further examination.

Furious Commanders fans took their frustration out on coach Dan Quinn, questioning why Daniels was still in the game when they were losing 38-7.

A particularly angry fan posted on X: ‘I don’t care. Jayden Daniels getting injured is 100% on Dan Quinn and the coaching staff. No reason why your starting QB should be in the game down 38-7 playing in garbage time.’

Another posted: ‘Dan Quinn should be fired for letting Jayden Daniels get hurt. Down 31 with 7 minutes left, why is he still  playing?’

‘No reason Jayden Daniels should have still been playing. That’s on Dan Quinn,’ a third commented.

Talking about whether Daniels should have still been in, Cris Collinsworth said on NBC’s broadcast: ‘That’s a fair question. I was thinking about it, too.

‘You know him. You know he doesn’t have that half speed. He’s going to take off and run and do everything he could to score that touchdown.

‘That’s ultimately what got him hurt and nobody is feeling that more than Dan Quinn but yeah, it’s fair. It’s a tough situation because he means everything to this team.’

When asked about the decision to keep Daniels in, Quinn told reporters: ‘Obviously, I’m just gutted by it, just bummed.

‘The one he was injured on is usually a run or a throw to the flat – it’s not a scramble. So, it wasn’t a designed read or play into that spot. If we run it 50 times, it’s either hand off or a throw 50 times. So, it’s a bummer, man – in a big way.’

Meanwhile, former NFL running back and college football national champion Damien Harries said it was an act of ‘malpractice’ by Quinn.

He said on CBS: ‘I’ve got to say, as a former player and somebody who has played this game and for coaches who do take care of their players, I’m p***** off.

‘This was malpractice by Dan Quinn. Having him in the game in the fourth quarter, down 38-7 when Jayden Daniels has already missed time with injuries.

‘Now, on top of that, we can all tell that Jayden Daniels is not the biggest guy. He doesn’t have a lot of things to protect him. I’m talking about muscle. He is your most prized possession as a franchise and you’re just hanging him out there to do what?

‘What was his purpose of being out there? Was he going to get any better? Was he going to learn anything? Was he going to bring his team back to win? No, no, no.

‘What’s the point of having him in the game? What’s the point of having back up quarterbacks? For a situation like this, when a game is out of hand and your starters need to be out to protect them from injury.

‘That’s what they’re for. They didn’t utilize that and now they’re going to have to live with the consequences of this injury to Jayden Daniels.’
