In Florida, authorities apprehended a 22-year-old man after he purportedly wielded a hunting knife, attacked his father by stabbing the back of his head, and menaced four children with threats of violence.

The individual, Trevor Nieves-Gonzalez, is now facing a series of charges including two counts of aggravated assault, four counts of child abuse, and one count of resisting an officer with violence.

As detailed in a probable cause affidavit acquired by Law&Crime, deputies from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched around 12:30 p.m. on Sunday to a residence located in the 1100 block of E. Fowler Drive in Deltona, responding to reports of an active altercation. The victim, who had been stabbed by his son Nieves-Gonzalez, made the emergency call to 911, as stated in the complaint.

The sheriff’s office released body camera footage highlighting a deputy approaching the scene with his weapon at the ready. The footage captures Nieves-Gonzalez’s father standing between the officer and his son, who was still armed with the knife.

“Sir, you need to move out of the way,” the deputy instructed as the suspect disregarded repeated demands to relinquish the weapon. “Please.”

In a plea to de-escalate the situation, the father implored, “Please don’t shoot my son,” urging the deputy to consider using a Taser instead.

“Please don’t shoot my son,” the father begged, urging the deputy to use a Taser instead.

“I’m not gonna shoot him if he drops the knife,” the deputy responded.

Eventually, Nieves-Gonzalez slammed down the knife and his dad moved out of the way. Nieves-Gonzalez allegedly spit on a cop and yelled “Kill me.” A deputy deployed his Taser which incapacitated Nieves-Gonzalez and he was taken into custody.

The father suffered a stab wound to the back of the head as well as a swollen right eye from being punched, deputies noted. He said his son had been drinking that morning while they were working in the front yard. At some point, Nieves-Gonzalez’s necklace broke, which set him off. He allegedly began punching his father and went inside where he armed himself with the hunting knife.

Nieves-Gonzalez sliced the back of his father’s head and broke multiple items inside the home, per cops. He then allegedly pointed the knife at four children ranging in age from 2 to 11.

“I’ll kill these kids, too,” the suspect stated, according to the affidavit.

He was taken to the Volusia County Jail where he is being held on a $90,000 bond. His next court date is scheduled for Dec. 4.
