CLINTWOOD, Va. (WJHL) — A disturbing video circulating on social media has prompted the Clintwood Police Department to open an investigation into alleged child abuse.
The police department acknowledged the video’s existence and confirmed an arrest related to the incident in a post on social media on Tuesday.
Details obtained by News Channel 11 from a criminal complaint reveal that the individual in question is 24-year-old David Umberger. The document alleges that Umberger “tripped a person under the age of 18 causing him to fall” during an incident that occurred on Sunday.
Following these allegations, Umberger was apprehended by authorities on Tuesday. He was subsequently released later the same day after posting a $5,000 bond.
The case is currently under further investigation by Dickenson County Commonwealth’s Attorney Joshua Newberry. Umberger faces charges of assault and battery as the legal proceedings unfold.
Dickenson County Commonwealth’s Attorney Joshua Newberry is investigating the case and said Umberger is facing assault and battery charges.
“The Town of Clintwood Police Department charged David Umberger with assault and battery in this case,” Newberry told News Channel 11. “The matter is still under investigation by both the Town of Clintwood Police Department and the Dickenson County Department of Social Services.”
While Umberger was released on bail, Newberry filed a motion to revoke the bond as “his continued freedom poses a danger to his family, his household, and the public at large,” according to the motion statement.
A court date is set for Nov. 12.
