In a dynamic display of skill, quarterback Byrum Brown led South Florida to a decisive 55-23 victory over UTSA on Thursday night in Tampa, Fla., amassing an impressive 348 total yards and delivering three touchdowns. The Bulls also capitalized on strong defensive plays, scoring two touchdowns on defense.

This triumph propels South Florida (7-2, 4-1) into a three-way tie in the American Athletic Conference, sharing the spotlight with Memphis and North Texas, all trailing Navy by just half a game.

Brown showcased his precision by completing 14 of 15 passes, totaling 239 yards and securing two touchdowns. He also demonstrated his agility on the ground, rushing for 109 yards on just nine carries and notching another touchdown. Nykahi Davenport contributed significantly with 94 rushing yards and two touchdowns on seven carries, while Keshaun Singleton caught four passes for 122 yards, resulting in two touchdowns for the Bulls.

South Florida’s defense set the tone early when Tavin Ward intercepted UTSA’s Owen McCown and returned it 40 yards for a touchdown on the opening play. Later in the first quarter, Jarvis Lee sacked McCown, forcing a fumble that Fred Gaskin returned 85 yards, widening the lead to 14-3.

UTSA got on the scoreboard with a 33-yard field goal by Michael Petro late in the first quarter. However, Brown responded swiftly in the second quarter, running 13 yards for a touchdown to advance the score to 21-3. The Roadrunners (4-5, 2-3) managed a 45-yard touchdown pass from McCown to Patrick Overmyer, but were unable to close the gap further.

McCown accumulated 200 passing yards and a touchdown, while backup quarterback Brandon Tennison added 109 yards and a touchdown through the air for UTSA.
