An Australian city is experiencing a brief spell of warm weather, but dramatic changes are on the horizon as temperatures are expected to plunge by as much as 20 degrees tomorrow.

Today, Melbourne basked in a high of 28 degrees, though the “feels like” temperature hovered closer to 25 degrees. This difference was due to a mix of winds and rain, as reported by the Bureau of Meteorology. However, this warmth is set to be short-lived.

Tomorrow’s forecast predicts a stark contrast, with the mercury dropping to a maximum of 13 degrees. The perceived temperature, factoring in wind and other elements, could feel as chilly as five degrees.

Later in the day, temperatures are expected to climb slightly, reaching a maximum of 16 degrees, but the early morning hours will still feel brisk at around five degrees.

According to Weatherzone, these rapid swings in temperature are not unusual during Melbourne’s spring season, highlighting the city’s reputation for unpredictable weather.

Weatherzone said rapid day-to-day fluctuations are fairly common in the springtime in Melbourne.

Temperatures can reach into the 40s in summer, but because a cool change usually follows extreme heat, the average maximum in the warmest month of January is actually 26 degrees.

Similarly, the average maximum for the coolest month of July is 13.5 degrees – similar to how tomorrow will feel.

The maximum temperatures are calculated based on the ambient temperature of the air itself, while the “feels like” temperature is measured by the ambient temperature, humidity, and wind chill to more accurately assess how a person would feel sitting outside in the shade.
