Staff Report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Stacey Ramone Scott, aged 51, was taken into custody yesterday on charges of indecent exposure. This marks his third arrest for the same offense in the Midtown area, following a similar incident two weeks ago for which he was released on a $5,000 bail. Previously, in July, he faced identical allegations, although those charges were eventually dropped.

A witness informed the Gainesville Police Department that around 8 p.m. on November 7, while en route to visit a friend at Ansley Terrace Apartments (located at 130 NW 9th Terrace), she noticed a man walking south along NW 9th Terrace. Upon making eye contact with the man after parking her car, he reportedly approached her with his genitals exposed. Feeling threatened, she quickly returned to her car and drove away to notify the authorities.

As she conversed with the police over the phone, she once again passed by the apartment complex and noticed the same individual still exposing himself. Upon spotting her vehicle, the man allegedly began running towards it.

The following day, at approximately 2:27 p.m., the victim’s friend alerted the police about the same individual being seen at the intersection of NW 4th Avenue and NW 10th Street. By 3:00 p.m., the friend confirmed to an officer that the man was present in the Ansley Terrace parking lot.

Subsequently, an officer located Scott in the apartment complex’s parking area, where the victim’s friend positively identified him as the individual responsible for the indecent exposure the previous night.

Post Miranda, Scott reportedly said he was “cutting through” the apartment complex to go to a friend’s house, but the officer noted that there is a six-foot fence around the perimeter of the complex except for the driveway, making it unlikely that Scott thought it was shorter to climb over the fence than to go around.

Scott reportedly told a different officer that he was visiting a friend, but he could not say where the friend lived.

When he was at the jail, Scott reportedly said he was at the apartment complex on Friday night with a friend who had ordered a Lyft, and he ran toward the victim’s car because he thought it was the Lyft, but it drove away.

Scott has been charged with indecent exposure, second or subsequent offense, and loitering/prowling.

Scott was arrested on October 26 for exposing himself in the 400 block of NW 10th Street and was released on October 31 after posting $5,000 bail. He was arrested for the same behavior in July at Ansley Terrace Apartments, but according to the State Attorney’s office, the victim did not actually see him exposing himself, so prosecutors would not have been able to establish all the elements of the crime, and the charge was dropped.

Scott has 12 felony convictions (two violent) and 32 misdemeanor convictions (five violent), including a 2017 conviction for indecent exposure; he has served two state prison sentences and was last released in July 2024 after serving a four-year sentence for five felonies spread across three cases. Judge Denise Ferrero set bail at $265,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
