Former Capitol Police Officer Linked To Jan. 6 Pipe Bomb Case

A forensic investigation commissioned by Blaze News has identified former U.S. Capitol Police officer Shauni Rae Kerkhoff as a near-perfect match for the long-sought pipe bomb suspect from January 6, 2021, according to multiple sources.

Kerkhoff’s distinctive way of walking—a mix of her stride, a subtle limp, and a unique pattern—closely aligns with the movements seen in the recently analyzed footage of the hooded individual suspected of planting bombs, showing a staggering 94% to 98% similarity. This connection is prompting renewed scrutiny of the circumstances surrounding the notorious pipe bombs near Capitol Hill.

The individual in question placed explosive devices near the Democratic National Committee and the Capitol Hill Club on the eve of the Capitol riot. Soon after these bombs were found, law enforcement resources were redirected, coinciding with the Capitol breach. At 31, Kerkhoff had spent over four years with the Capitol Police, including work with the Civil Disturbance Unit, before moving to a security role at the CIA, as confirmed by CIA spokesperson Liz Lyons.

According to an analyst involved in the gait analysis shared with Blaze News, while the software showed a 94% match, further visual evaluation increased this certainty to nearly 98%, attributed to Kerkhoff’s notable limp from a college soccer injury. This injury, well-documented from her college days, strengthened the forensic comparison. The analysis was based on footage from Capitol security and raw captures from the night of January 5.

Former FBI Special Agent Kyle Seraphin, who had monitored the suspect’s neighborhood shortly after the assaults, alleges that investigators were unexpectedly removed from the case, hinting at a possible cover-up. Seraphin shared with Blaze News, “The FBI had us within one door of the pipe bomber just days after January 6, then inexplicably pulled us away. That indicates to me a deliberate cover-up from the start—they were complicit.”

The pipe bombs were placed near the Democratic National Committee building (left) and the Capitol Hill Club (right). The bombs were discovered on Jan. 6, 2021.

These disclosures have sparked criticism of federal investigation bodies, particularly over their inability to capture the suspect despite having multiple leads and offering a hefty $500,000 reward. Former Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund expressed shock at these allegations, stating he was unaware of any officer’s involvement in the bomb plot and questioned any claims of law enforcement complicity.

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) has been outspoken in questioning the federal agencies’ probe into the incident. On November 8, he tweeted, “America awakens today to the realization that Capitol Police turned CIA orchestrated the January 6 pipe bombs, and the FBI has concealed this for over four years.”

The identification of a former Capitol Police officer as the pipe bomb suspect would dramatically recast the narrative of January 6, undercutting established portrayals that external insurrectionists alone were responsible. The prospect of insider involvement underscores the need for an honest and thorough reckoning and raises suspicion about institutional motives for covering up inconvenient truths.

As of now, neither the FBI nor the Department of Justice has confirmed these forensic findings. Ed Martin, a DOJ special attorney, stated the department has not officially identified Kerkhoff as the suspect, reflecting an ongoing investigative stance and denying allegations of confirmed identification.
