In the picturesque yet challenging terrain of North Georgia, authorities are on the lookout for a missing Texas law professor who disappeared during a hiking trip near the scenic Nottely Falls and Blood Mountain. The search efforts are focused on locating Charles Hosch, a 67-year-old adjunct professor from Southern Methodist University’s Dedman School of Law.

Hosch was last seen on November 11 at the Byron Herbert Reece Trailhead in Union County. His attire on that day was described as khaki pants, a caramel-colored sweater, and a dark green jacket. The Union County Sheriff’s Office has been actively investigating his disappearance and is appealing for any information from the public.

“If you were near or on the Appalachian Trail/Mountain Crossing Store on the 11th and saw Charles, please let us know,” urged the sheriff’s office in their outreach efforts. The hope is that any sighting or piece of information could provide crucial leads in the search for the missing professor.

Charles Hosch’s professional life as an adjunct professor at SMU’s prestigious Dedman Law School in Dallas adds another layer of concern to his disappearance. The university expressed its solidarity with Hosch’s family through a statement, saying, “SMU is aware that Charles Hosch, an adjunct faculty member in the Dedman School of Law, was reported missing while hiking in Georgia. We are keeping his family and all who care about him in our thoughts and are grateful for the efforts of the agencies leading the search.”

The Union County Sheriff’s Office has requested that anyone who might have relevant information reach out to the Emergency Operations Center by calling (706) 439-6091 or dialing 911. As the search continues, the community remains hopeful for a positive outcome in this troubling situation.

The sheriff’s office asked anyone with information to contact the Emergency Operations Center at (706) 439-6091 or dial 911.
