Russia Ukraine | Russian drone strike on Odesa kills married couple, injures 17 people, Ukraine says

An early morning incident on Friday led to a fatal shooting at St. Louis Lambert International Airport, where a law enforcement officer shot a man brandishing a knife near a terminal entrance. Fortunately, no one else sustained injuries, according to police reports.

The event unfolded around 1 a.m., as confirmed by St. Louis County Police spokesperson Vera Clay.

The confrontation took place in a publicly accessible area close to the airport’s light rail line, which provides transportation to the terminal, rather than in a secured zone, as indicated by airport maps available online.

Due to the incident, the rail service to Terminal 1 was temporarily halted for approximately three hours. During this period, shuttles were arranged for passengers from alternative drop-off locations. Later that Friday morning, the rail service resumed operations while the airport continued its regular functions, as stated by airport director Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge.

According to Clay, the man, whose identity has not been released, was spotted by officers in a restricted area and refused to depart when asked.

Despite attempts to de-escalate the situation with Tasers, the man advanced towards the officers, prompting one to discharge their firearm, resulting in the man’s death, Clay explained.

“We don’t believe this was an individual trying to catch an airplane or coming into town,” Clay said.

She said part of the investigation will be focused on determining why the person was there and needed to be removed.

The two officers were part of the airport’s police department and had six months and one year of service on the force respectively, as well as earlier law enforcement experience, St. Louis County police said in an emailed statement.
