WASHINGTON — On Sunday, President Trump criticized Ukraine for showing “zero gratitude” towards his administration’s efforts to resolve the ongoing conflict with Russia. This comes as a White House-supported 28-point peace proposal is being labeled as a potential “wishlist” for Russia.
Trump took to Truth Social to express his frustration, stating, “UKRAINE ‘LEADERSHIP’ HAS EXPRESSED ZERO GRATITUDE FOR OUR EFFORTS, AND EUROPE CONTINUES TO BUY OIL FROM RUSSIA.”
He continued, “THE USA CONTINUES TO SELL MASSIVE $AMOUNTS OF WEAPONS TO NATO, FOR DISTRIBUTION TO UKRAINE (CROOKED JOE GAVE EVERYTHING, FREE, FREE, FREE, INCLUDING ‘BIG’ MONEY!).”
Controversy erupted last week when a 28-point plan aimed at ending the conflict in Ukraine was leaked. On Saturday, there was confusion about whether the U.S. was the originator of the document, as some senators reported that Secretary of State Marco Rubio suggested otherwise.
However, the State Department confirmed that the U.S. was indeed behind the plan. This proposal requires Ukraine to relinquish the Donbas region entirely, an area Russia has struggled to fully control through military means for over a decade.
The plan also stipulates that Ukraine should refrain from joining NATO, reduce its military force from approximately 900,000 to 600,000 personnel, and grant amnesty to all involved in the conflict, which would prevent Russians from facing war crimes accusations.
Meanwhile, the Russians would only be required to make a few concessions.
Trump did not specifically address the plan in his Truth Social post.
