The service operates around the clock, every day of the week, and is completely free for users.
In 2023, an SMS channel was introduced, and by 2024, video counseling became available.
Over the past financial year, the service handled more than 342,000 interactions via calls, video calls, online chats, and texts, offering victim-survivors the flexibility to choose the method of communication that best suits their needs.
“It’s encouraging to see more individuals recognizing the signs of violence and reaching out for assistance. This announcement ensures that 1800RESPECT can continue delivering this essential service, not only to those directly affected by violence but also to their family and friends seeking to provide support,” stated Social Services Minister Tanya Plibersek.
To honor the occasion, Parliament House will be bathed in orange light on Tuesday night.
