An Adelaide resident is being celebrated as a hero after he courageously alerted his neighbors to a fire, prompting a swift evacuation of their apartment complex.
Ross Greig sprang into action early in the morning, around 4 a.m., when he was awakened by the tenant of the unit engulfed in flames. The fire had erupted at the Constance Street complex in Brooklyn Park.
Greig recounted the startling moment, saying, “The tenant came to me, panicked, saying, ‘I’ve set the flat on fire.’ He dashed out to the street, and I asked, ‘What are you doing?’ He replied, ‘I’m going for the fire brigade.'”
Without hesitation, Greig began knocking on doors, waking about a dozen of his neighbors to ensure their safety. “People were sleeping, and it took some time to get them all out. Some didn’t come out immediately, perhaps thinking it was a false alarm,” he explained.
Prior to the fire, residents had noticed a troubling buildup of items both inside and outside the affected apartment. They suspect these materials intensified the blaze, complicating the situation further.

While the fire spread to an adjacent unit, firefighters successfully contained the major damage to the initial apartment.
The building’s owner said she has offered support to the tenant.
The cause of the fire is undetermined.
