A heartbreaking incident has unfolded in California, where a police K9 named Spike tragically lost his life in the line of duty. According to a source from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the suspect, a known gang member, is a Salvadoran national residing in the U.S. illegally.

The suspect, Jose Domingo Ayala Alas, 37, allegedly fled during a traffic stop on November 22. This prompted Burbank police officers and Spike to pursue him through a residential area.

In a devastating turn of events, Alas reportedly opened fire after Spike successfully located him hiding in some nearby bushes. The brave canine was critically wounded in the gunfire.

Despite being rushed to an emergency veterinary clinic, efforts to save Spike were unsuccessful. The Burbank Police Department solemnly announced the loss of their cherished K9 on November 23.
