In the confines of the Idaho Maximum Security Institution, Bryan Kohberger, the convicted University of Idaho murderer, is finding himself dissatisfied with the culinary offerings behind bars. Specifically, Kohberger has expressed disdain for the quality of bananas served at the facility, according to reports.

In a conversation with NewsNation, retired homicide detective Chris McDonough revealed Kohberger’s grievances about the prison’s fruit selection. “He has complained to the prison staff about not liking the type of bananas provided,” McDonough explained, highlighting the former criminology student’s apparent difficulty adjusting to life in prison.

McDonough further commented on Kohberger’s situation, noting, “He seems unaware that as an inmate, his choices are limited. He doesn’t have the luxury to select his meals like he might have on the outside.”

Kohberger, now 30, is serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole after pleading guilty to the brutal murders of Ethan Chapin, Xana Kernodle, Madison Mogen, and Kaylee Goncalves. The tragic incident occurred on November 13, 2022, at the victims’ off-campus residence in Moscow. By accepting the plea deal, Kohberger avoided the death penalty and relinquished his right to appeal.

According to reports from NewsNation, Kohberger resides in long-term restrictive housing, occupying a single cell and receiving only an hour of outdoor recreation each day. His life behind bars is reportedly challenging, as other inmates have been relentless in their interactions with him. Staff members face a dilemma, knowing that integrating him into the general population could exacerbate his situation, making him a more prominent target.

McDonough told the news outlet that Kohberger is having a tough time behind bars, as staff see how “relentless” inmates are towards him. Staff are reportedly conflicted because moving him to general population would only make him a bigger target.

McDonough said, “My source tells me he entered that prison with this idea: ‘I’m Brian Kohberger. I just killed four people, so therefore I’m one of you,’ and that’s not how it’s playing out at all, and they resent him for it.”
