ALACHUA, Fla. – A woman named Janelle-Joy Alexandra Summers, aged 43, was taken into custody yesterday following accusations of vandalizing a pickup truck in Alachua after a dispute with its owner.

At approximately 7:05 p.m. on December 8, officers from the Alachua Police Department were dispatched to an incident involving an armed disturbance in the parking lot of Sonny’s, located at 15935 NW U.S. Hwy 441. The individual who made the call claimed a woman was in the parking lot wielding a knife and threatening to puncture the tires of his vehicle.

Upon arrival, the officer encountered the victim in the parking lot, who identified Summers as she attempted to drive away. The officer halted her vehicle, detained Summers, and reportedly confiscated a knife that was attached to her pants.

The victim recounted having an on-and-off relationship with Summers and had agreed to meet her at the restaurant. However, upon her arrival, she allegedly appeared “in a manic state,” became agitated, and began shouting, prompting restaurant staff to ask her to exit the dining area. After leaving, Summers allegedly sent the victim text messages, including one threatening to slash his truck’s tires.

The officer noted that the truck sustained significant scratches on one side, along with messages written in nail polish. One of these messages reportedly contained the word “die.”

Post Miranda, Summers reportedly said she was upset with the victim and admitted that after she left the restaurant, she used a pocket knife to scratch the victim’s truck and wrote messages in nail polish.

Summers, who is described as homeless in the arrest report, has been charged with property damage over $1,000. She has an unspecified criminal history between 2021 and 2025 in other counties, but she has no criminal convictions. Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $15,000 but ordered that she should be released if she is accepted to Mental Health Court; Judge Miller-Jones also ordered an evaluation for emergency mental health treatment.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
