LEESBURG, Fla. – Following a water main break in Leesburg, the Florida Governmental Utility Authority has issued a boil water advisory for the area as of Thursday.

The FGUA reported that the incident involved a 4-inch water main, which broke at 11937 Layton Street.

The advisory affects the Western Shores System, impacting approximately 500 local residents.

“Service was interrupted this evening to begin repairs,” FGUA officials stated in a release, adding that there is currently no timeline for when service will be fully restored.

During this advisory period, FGUA advises residents to boil all water used for drinking or cooking for at least one minute to ensure it is free from potential viruses.

Alternatively, residents may opt to use bottled water for their needs.

“The advisory will be lifted once repairs are complete, and water samples taken to an independent, Florida Department of Health-certified laboratory indicates that the water is safe to drink, typically in two to three days,” the release continues.

Customers with questions about the outage and advisory are asked to call FGUA Pasco Customer Service Officer at (877) 657-8889.
