Davell Holden killed: $10K reward offered in murder of Thornwood High School player killed in South Holland shooting: officials

In South Holland, Illinois, authorities have announced charges against two men and a teenager for the tragic murder of a high school basketball player, a case of mistaken identity.

The incident involved 16-year-old Davell Holden, a student at Thornwood High School, who was fatally shot near the intersection of 160th Place and Drexel Avenue on the evening of August 2.

Javan Moore, aged 21, is facing charges of first-degree murder as the alleged gunman in this case.

Additionally, Demon Smith, 20, along with a 16-year-old boy, have been charged with felony murder.

All three suspects are reported to reside in the nearby suburban area of Phoenix.

Authorities revealed that Holden was visiting his girlfriend on the street where the suspects mistakenly believed their intended target lived. Coincidentally, Holden bore a resemblance to the person the suspects were actually seeking.

“This was a tragic and sickening incident. While we are grateful to have made the arrests, we are deeply saddened for Davell’s family and friends,” said South Holland Mayor Don De Graff. “No family should ever experience this kind of loss, and our community stands with them during this difficult time.”

Officials will hold a press conference on Monday at 11 a.m.

South Holland police detectives asked anyone with additional information to call them at 708-331-3131, extension two.
