ORLANDO, Fla. – Florida is introducing a new license plate to its lineup, this time with a patriotic theme.

In anticipation of the United States’ 250th birthday on July 4, 2026, the state is launching the America 250 license plate for drivers in Florida, available starting this week.

“The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles is proud to offer Floridians a way to engage with our nation’s 250th anniversary,” said Executive Director Dave Kerner in a press announcement. “This special plate is an emblem of our collective pride in America’s history and underscores Florida’s ties to the country’s past.”

Unlike specialty plates, the America 250 plate can be used as a substitute for the standard Florida license plate, with regular fees applicable. Drivers can opt for the America 250 plate during vehicle registration or renewal, as noted in the release.

“Florida’s storied history plays a vital role in the American narrative,” remarked Secretary of State Cord Byrd, who chairs Florida’s Semiquincentennial Commission. “The America250FL license plate offers Floridians a chance to publicly celebrate this legacy and join in the America250FL festivities.”

The new plate will be accessible through various outlets, including local tax collector offices and authorized tag agencies.
