Joliet Bishop Ronald Hicks named by Pope Leo to lead New York Archdiocese, replacing Cardinal Timothy Dolan

In a significant change for the Catholic Church in the United States, Bishop Ronald Hicks of Joliet, Illinois, has been selected by Pope Leo to take the helm of the New York Archdiocese. This announcement was officially confirmed by the Vatican on Thursday morning.

Bishop Hicks will succeed Cardinal Timothy Dolan, who is stepping down from his role. This new appointment marks a major transition in Hicks’s career, as he was only appointed as the sixth bishop of the Diocese of Joliet in 2020. Hicks, who hails from the south suburbs, expressed his gratitude for his tenure in Joliet.
