James Fyfe recently left his job in Massachusetts where he worked in security screening to pursue his aspiration of becoming a police officer.

Fyfe was drawn to New Orleans, a city actively recruiting due to a hiring shortage, with “help wanted” notices posted throughout. He began his career as a patrol officer in Algiers and advanced through the Fourth District Task Force into the property crimes unit.

Following his stint with the Violent Crime Abatement Investigation team, Fyfe seized the opportunity to join the homicide division. This move coincided with a significant rise in violent crime in New Orleans. While the average detective handles about five homicide cases annually, Fyfe tackled nearly 40 cases over three years, consistently resolving them!

Since 2022, Fyfe has impressively solved 24 consecutive cases. His colleagues even track his progress on a whiteboard they’ve humorously named the “Fyfe-o-meter.”

Fyfe’s success has been instrumental in elevating the homicide division’s clearance rate from 40% in 2022 to over 76%.

As 2024 draws to a close, Thanh Vu is focused on running her supermarket. However, she faces danger when three individuals, posing as customers, aim to take more than just groceries. Thanh, aged 61, finds herself at gunpoint as the robbers clean out the register and grab cigarettes.

When Thanh fights back, she’s shot and left for dead.
