Authorities have taken action against a 24-year-old Interlachen resident, Brendan Hanes, following disturbing allegations of animal abuse. The sheriff’s office reported that two dogs were seized from Hanes’ residence after videos surfaced online, purportedly showing him engaging in acts of sexual abuse with one of the animals.

The investigation commenced when a concerned online acquaintance of Hanes alerted law enforcement. This individual became aware of the situation through explicit video content obtained from Hanes’ former long-distance partner, who was a mutual contact. It was this friend who first reported the troubling evidence in December, prompting a deeper probe into the allegations.

Authorities pieced together that the incriminating video had indeed been filmed by Hanes himself. It appeared to have been recorded within the confines of his current home, further corroborating the disturbing claims.

In a shocking revelation, Hanes’ ex-partner informed investigators that Hanes had confessed to having a sexual interest in dogs. Furthermore, he had allegedly shared similar explicit material in the past through Telegram, a messaging platform known for its encrypted communication.

Upon searching Hanes’ property, officials located two dogs, including the one believed to have been victimized in the video. Both animals were promptly removed from the premises and are now under the care of a local animal shelter, where they are receiving necessary evaluations and treatments.

Two dogs, including one believed to be in the video, were found in Hanes’ home. They were removed and taken to a local animal shelter for examination and any necessary treatment.

Hanes is being charged with one count of animal cruelty via sexual contact and is being held on a $2,500 bond.

Beginning on Jan. 1, 2026, people convicted of similar animal cruelty and abuse charges in Florida will be listed in a statewide database. The new database was created under Dexter’s Law, which was approved in 2025
