INDIALANTIC, Fla. – It has been several weeks since Brevard County authorities removed Sonja Kopriva from her unsanitary home, following complaints from neighbors about her alleged disposal of human waste in their yards. Now, residents of Atlantic Avenue are left wondering about Kopriva’s current whereabouts and the future of her condemned property.

In a recent interview, Susan Brennan shared with our Indialantic Community Correspondent, James Sparvero, that Kopriva was not only endangering her own health but also that of her neighbors, with the assistance of a man often seen on her porch.

“She uses a bucket for her waste, and this man goes around and dumps it wherever he wants,” Brennan explained.

Although Brennan felt relieved when Kopriva was removed from her porch and taken for treatment—Kopriva herself admitted to Sparvero that she was unwell and in need of help—the absence of her former neighbor comes with its own set of worries as the new year begins.

“There is fear in the community about what might happen if she returns,” Brennan expressed.

Like others in the community, Brennan thanked News 6 for trying to help solve this problem, but she also worried that, because the house is still there, what could happen next.

Some neighbors said the rats at Kopriva’s are making their way to other homes.

“I think this is just the start of the story because the house is still here, and now what happens to it,” Brennan asked.

Neighbors said they’ve heard from the sheriff’s office that Kopriva can only come home if she brings a contractor to make repairs or demolish the house.

Kopriva was given two months to address her property’s issues, so she has until February.
